An interesting look back at the history of the famous Jacuzzi brand name, from the 1900’s to the present day.

Jacuzzi, the most famous name in hot tubs..
Some
names are so legendary that they seem to be part of our lives. Jacuzzi, the most widely recognised name in whirlpool and hot tub hydrotheraphy, is first and foremost an illustrious family name. The Jacuzzi brothers started a tradition of innovation in the fields of aviation and agriculture, and actually gave rise to a new industry with their home hydrothraphy products.

1900’s - Seven brothers - pioneers in design and engineering.
Inventive, hard-working, and family-oriented, the Jacuzzi family came to the United States in the early 1900’s from Europe. Making their mark avaiation with the construction of the first closed-cabin monoplane, they later turned their attention to water systems and pumps in California’s orange groves. In 1925, the brothers revolutionised the agricultural industry by c
reating the first submersible pump.

1950’s - Hydraulics leads to hydrotheraphy..
When a young Jacuzzi family member was stricken with rheumatoid arthritis, the brothers, already experts in hydraulics, designed an aerating pump that could be submerged in a bathtub to provide pain-relieving hydrotherapeutic treatments. The J-300, a portable pump, became a celebrated invention of the era. With the power to transform any normal bath into a relaxing and rejuvenating hydro therapeutic spa, the J-300 hot tub started a niche market. In doing so it started Jacuzzi on the road to becoming a household
name.

1960’s - Innovative jets start an industry..
In 1968, the third -generation family member Roy Jacuzzi took the portable hydrotheraphy pump to the next level. Having worked in the family business since he was a teenager, Roy Jacuzzi created and marketed the world’s first integrated whirlpool bath, the "Roman". The key to the Roman was the incorporation of innovative theraphy jets into the sides of the tub. His patented jets produced a unique 50/50 air-to-water ratio. Jacuzzi uses this same air-to-water system today to provide a spa experience you won’t find anywhere else. With the support of family members, Roy was instrumental in creating a whole new industry. The brand Jacuzzi® became forever imprinted in our minds.

1970’s - The first hot tubs built for families..
In 1970, Jacuzzi invented larger hot tubs to accomodate groups of people. Incorporating heating and filtration systems to keep the water warm and clea, these self-contained family-size "spas" were unique. For the first time in modern history, anyone could indule in a relaxing and invigorating spa tretment with friends and family in their own homes.

1980’s - Hot tubs to fit the active lifestyle..
During the 1980’s Jacuzzi focussed on enhancing the home spa experience, introducing models that worked as hot tubs, whirlpool baths, or both. The new models incorporated soothing waterfalls and could be installed indoors or out turning the backyard into a place to relax and entertain family and friends.

1990’s - Jacuzzi hot tubs become part of the family backyard..
In the early 1990’s Roy Jacuzzi inducted into the National Kitchen & Bath Hall of Fame, recognised for his many contributions in the innovation of hydrotheraphy for home use. Jacuzzi was the first company to promote the concept that a backyard hot tub could be as "entertaining" as a
barbeque grill or lap pool. The Jacuzzi design and engineering teams responded to modern consumer trends by offering more energy saving hot tubs, in more colours, and with more optional features than ever before.

2000 - Award-winning Jacuzzi hot tubs sold word-wide..
The Jacuzzi® brand of hot tubs is manufactured by Jacuzzi Hot Tubs, the world’s largest manufacturer of acrylic spas. In addition to the first whirlpool bath patent, Jacuzzi, Inc. has over 250 worldwide patents for advancements in pump systems, jet technology, air controls and product design. This ongoing commitment to innovative product development ensures Jacuzzi’s leadership position in the industry, and sets the standard for quality and value the world over.
